Channing Rodman Consulting
helping you make your way on social mediaAbout me (tah dah!)
I am a social media strategist and communications professional who lives and works in Vancouver, BC.
I would love to connect to you on LinkedIn, and I have lots of info about my work up there.
But here are 15 things about me you won’t find on LinkedIn.
1 I spent part of my childhood on a tropical island, living in a hut with no electricity or running water.
2 I love carrots.
3 I have worse-than-average night vision, and disprove everything your mom ever told you about eating carrots.
4 I moved to Vancouver in 2009 because I got this amazing job. Before that, I lived in Warsaw and Berlin for a couple of years.
5 I can explain the point of Twitter! Even to your grumpiest executive.
6 For fun, I organized The Red Ride in Berlin. It involved bikes, connecting Berlin and Montreal, and AIDS awareness for my favorite youth organization, Head & Hands.
7 My great-great-uncle was on the Titanic but he survived (and married a fellow survivor who he met in the lifeboat!) Sadly, he was transporting a french bulldog at the time who didn’t make it. And this is what I think about every time I see a french bulldog.
8 I always make the bed. Always.
9 Here’s what I look like on TV (when I’m volunteering instead of working) Go to 0:35 if you’re the impatient type.
10 My mom and I share: an addiction to lip balm and a love for neat community projects - here’s the one she’s co-organizing for seniors on Vancouver Island.
11 I will read anything, especially if someone asks me to read something. I view books as fantastic cures for what ails you. I have to fight the impulse to prescribe books to people. (But you should read Lynda Barry’s One!Hundred!Demons!, you’ll feel better!)
12 I am a terrible photographer. There, I said it. And don’t let me iron shirts. Or do the laundry.
13 A kitchen timer and an grid lined notebook cured me of two bad habits.
14 Pages open on my Safari right now: turning newspapers into umbrellas, a great recipe for ginger snaps from one of my favorite food bloggers, Anne-Marie Slaughter’s Atlantic article on Why Women Can’t Have It All, a bunch of online solutions I’m testing as a volunteer adviser for RainCity Housing, the Wikipedia entry for Ada Lovelace, and The New Yorker’s recent Twitter novel experiment.
15 My alter ego is an ambitious sheep. (I write a story blog for kids and their sleep deprived parents)
